Fight for Sight is a charity on a mission, to stop sight loss. As the leading UK charity dedicated to stopping sight loss through pioneering research, our vision is simple. We believe in a future everyone can see. It is estimated that there are two million people in the UK living with sight loss that affects their daily lives, and this number is on the rise.
For half of these people their sight loss is preventable. For the other half it is not so straightforward. There are hundreds of separate conditions that cause sight loss, and for them, only research will find a solution. We have achieved amazing things in our 54-year history – from saving the sight of untold numbers of premature babies to leading the world on genetic research that is restoring sight in young people fighting hereditary blindness. We have much to be proud of, but with so many people living with sight loss and an ever-ageing population, there is much, much more to do.
Our current chair retires in March 2020, and we are starting the search to find his successor. We are looking for an outstanding candidate with a commitment to the vision and values of Fight for Sight, who will act as an advocate for the charity and with the drive and ambition to continue to extend its reach. Acting in partnership with our Chief Executive, you will have a strong track record of leadership and high-level networking skills, with a willingness to use your connections and influence to advance Fight for Sight’s mission. You will be a first-class communicator and relationship builder and able to work positively with a range of stakeholders. The role will require one to two days per month. This is the opportunity to help lead an organisation that is on the cusp of breakthroughs that could change the lives of millions of people worldwide.
